Adult Daycare Services

Many seniors in Pennsylvania want to be able to stay in their home for as long as possible and ideally want a family member or loved one to provide care. This can be difficult for those family members providing care, though, especially if they have other jobs, responsibilities, and obligations. Adult day care and respite care is one way that can make it easier for seniors to get the kind of care they want and allow caregivers to take care of their other jobs and duties.

How Adult Day Care And Respite Care Works

Adult day care services provide social and health services to seniors that need to be supervised during the day. There are full and half-day programs that operate Monday through Friday usually from the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can decide how many days each week you need to use adult day care and whether you need to utilize the full-day service or only use half-day care. Most programs are based out of senior centers or hospitals, but you can also find them in churches or community centers and even in assisted living facilities.

Nursing staff will be on hand to take care of any health related issues that might occur. They can also monitor chronic conditions by taking vital signs, distributing medication, and caring for wounds. If you need specific kinds of care for a certain condition, like dementia, you can find programs that will address those needs and tailor their care. Pennsylvania Department of Health is in charge of licensing and regulations for adult day services in Pennsylvania and makes sure each program meets certain standards.

One requirement for these programs is that they provide a hot and nutritious lunch to all seniors. There will be a few programs that also offer breakfast or even snacks throughout the day. Finally, there will be plenty of social activities to make sure all seniors are engaged and entertained during their time at daycare. They can socialize with other seniors, play games, do arts and crafts, and some might even be able to go on field trips or daily outings.
